LSU Football and Hurricane Gustav

Preparing for the hurricane entails putting up anything that can blow around outside. The wind can turn over wrought iron chairs and tables and can blow terra cotta plant pots pretty far.

LSU fans had to wake up early with a 10am game. Hope they win!

Hurricane Preparedness and Homeschool

Well, it looks like Gustav may head this way, therefore, as usual, we've rounded up another excuse for postponing the first day of 9th grade.

Today I'm defrosting my freezer. Every year, the first hurricane prompts me to do this chore. Part of hurricane preparedness. Get rid of anything I haven't used in a year, recall the things I have in there I forgot about, and get motivated all over again to fill with meals. Along with this is cleaning out the ice chest.

I'm reminded that our hearts need defrosting sometimes. Clear out the old, stale things that are useless in warming our hearts to Christ, tender the things that keep the fire going, and pray He leads us to be zealous for Him!

"So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth." Revelation 3:16

Finding Friends

Facebook is wonderful! I joined then typed in people I had once known and am curious about. Wow! It's an amazing thing that they are there. I saw two precious kids I had once taken care of. There they were all grown up. I saw snippets of their lives and their friends. I got in touch with people that at one time, years ago, had shared profound, heartwrenching things with me. All at the click of a button there they were. My mind has been filled with memories. Memories that laid deep imprints on my heart.

Jesus Christ is our only hope for seeing these friends for all eternity. I can't wait for heaven when there is no separtation of time and distance between us all. What a joy to know that. But what about those who are lost and would not be seen again? I am praying today that the Lord save these friends that they would have a hope within them worth living for today in this world.

Chemistry, Trigonemetry, and Economics

What a year it will be for my daughter and me! 9th grade! As we gear up for our 9th year of homeschooling I'm looking at a lot of things my daughter will be learning--as she teaches hereself! That's because I never took Trig or Chemistry. But seriously, I'm proud of her because frankly she whips through those things and learns them because that side of her brain is in tact and not mine.

I encourage all the homeschoolers not to be discouaraged. Your child is capable of learning even if you don't understand the periodic table. My dad, a Pediatrician, loves helping her with Science, and my sister, who is a math genius, has spent some time on the phone when it doesn't click. Our art teacher's husband, a math professor at LSU, has been fascinated by problems in our Jacobs Geometry book and has been a great source as well.

I often wondered if I'd last through to high school. And here we are! I thank the Lord daily for the strength He's given me, for the opportunity to love and devote myself to my daughter, and mostly, for the time to be with her and watch the woman of God He is developing right before my eyes. We have walked a precious journey together so far and at the end of each year, I have been able to say, "Lord, I praise you for this little girl and for what you are doing in her life."
